| ASR Trade Show Day 1 |
09-04-2008 |
I always love coming out to San Diego for ASR because of all the great opportunities that come up. Yesterday was was a great day. We checked out the open house at Black Box and saw the burn out machine.--I think there is some footage on the ZERO web site. After doing bun outs and wheelies in the parking lot we headed to Matt Hensly's Flying Elephant for some good music, food and a few pints. It was also Black Lable's 20 year anniversary so we lucked out with that. We bumped into a lot of long time no see friends Tod Swank and Glenn Brummage from Tum Yeto, Dennis Cramer from Innes, and a few Santa Cruz legends. This trip to ASR is going to be one of our best yet! What am I saying? Every trip to ASR is our best trip!
Thanks Andy T for putting a roof over our head and making all this possible!
Stay tuned for more ASR Trade Show happenings right here! See you later!

| DVS Wins Skate & Create |
08-20-2008 |
Back in April, TransWorld SKATEboarding held its first annual Skate & Create contest. In a nutshell, the contest consists of four teams of four pros, one am, a photographer, a videographer, and an art director. Each team is locked in a warehouse for nine days with a smorgasbord of ramps, rails, banks, and boxes. The team that can come up with the most creative set concept, skate obstacles, photography, skateboarding, and video wins.
All teams involved produced amazing videos and brilliant photos, but after the judging was said and done it was DVS that emerged as the winner.
In honor of its accomplishments, DVS has launched a Mini-Website that showcases its contest video, a behind-the-scenes video, point and shoot photos, as well as brief interviews with the creative minds behind the project.
Click on over to DVS Skate to see DVS’ Skate & Create Mini-Site.

Eric Koston, Jereme Rogers and Darrell Stanton will be joining the Dew Tour high rollers PRod, Sheckler and Lutzka at the AST Dew Tour's Portland Skate Park comp on Friday, August 22nd.
The street-focused course in Portland will feature stairs, rails, jersey barriers, and cement ledges along with elements that will give the course a real-life feel – including a picnic table, fire hydrant, brick stamped Skatelite, and shrubbery.
PRod expressed his approval of the new course,
"This course is definitely my cup of tea. I saw the drawing of it, and it looked great. For me personally, this style of course gives me more options of tricks to try. So hopefully when I skate it in Portland I'll feel the same way." ......for the full PRod interview hit up AST

| Michael Arthur King, 54, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 26, 2008 |
08-04-2008 |
He suffered a heart attack while driving home from a game of golf in his hometown of Palm Bay, Florida. Mike was able to pull to the side of the road but was gone by the time medical help arrived.
A native Floridian, Mike began skateboarding in the late 1960's and became one of the east coast's early pioneers. He made his mark in skateboarding in the early 1970's skating the infamous Haulover underpass in North Miami Beach. Mike later became a member of the Walker Skateboard Team and competed regularly in contests, routinely driving the Walker team van around the state, ferrying teammates like Rodney Mullen and Jim McCall to contests and demos. As one of the sport's elders, Mike's advice and coaching of the team was an extra bonus to sponsor Bruce Walker. "Mike King was an original. He was such a benefit to have along when we traveled because he kept our teamriders out of trouble by keeping them on track and focused. He was well known for his upbeat, positive attitude and he effected those around him in a very positive way." recalled Walker. "He will be sorely missed."
In 2002, Mike King was nominated for induction into the Florida Skateboard Hall of Fame. While he has not yet been formally inducted, Mike's name has continuously appeared on the nominee list and will again be in consideration for the upcoming induction ceremony, scheduled for January 2009 at Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida.
Mike King is survived by his wife Maria, sons Chris, Richard, and Patrick, and daughter Michelle. His funeral service was held on Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Bay. In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been set up. Donations can be made out to Patrick S. King c/o Riverside National Bank, 4625 Babcock St.NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905.

| !!ATTENTION SHOPS!! |
07-25-2008 |
In an attempt to uncover some of the most amazing shop talent out there, DVS presents Shopliftn'—
a shop video contest of epic proportions.
Here’s how it works. All DVS skate shops will receive a golden ticket to participate, but only the first 100 shops to RSVP will be eligible to compete. These 100 lucky shops will have the opportunity to produce a five-minute video segment highlighting the best skateboarding their shop team has to offer. Each team will have exactly five months to film, produce, and edit their footage. On January 31, 2009 each team will submit their footage to DVS. Each shop video will then be meticulously judged by DVS team riders on the quality of skateboarding, cinematography, editing, soundtrack, and art direction.
The shop that produces the best overall video will receive custom DVS shop shoes, a DVS demo, and an ad running in a major skateboard magazine announcing them as the winner of the Shopliftn’ contest. The winning shop will also have their video featured on www.dvsskate.com and will have the opportunity to defend their title next year.
Log on HERE for full contest details.

| 2008 VANS WARPED TOUR ST. PETE FLORIDA |
07-11-2008 |
From entrance to exit there was never a dull moment at the 2008 VANS WARPED TOUR. We missed the mini ramp contest but 688 owner, Jay Turner placed 3rd and we were told it was a good turnout. We caught a show at the Hurley Stage and then bumped into local, Ricky Martin drinking ice cold PBR at the Skate Park Of Tampa booth. The SPoT was up to their usual antics and I didn’t want to get spray painted on so we made our way to the main stage. On the way, I thought I was going to loose my eyesight when we saw this rather large woman (peep the photo) jamming out. Yeah, it was that bad. It was all good though because we saw our friend, Frank holding it down at the VANS booth and he showed us a brand new pair of SLAYER VANS that should be coming out soon. They also had a few other pairs of VANS I have never seen before, but should be dropping sooner than later so keep your eyes open for those to be arriving at your local skate shop. We caught a few more shows and called it a day. On our way home Scotty The Body from SPoT cut us off and was throwing up his devil horns and yelling satanic obscenities. –WARP TOUR IS THE OTHER WAY BRO—

| ZOO YORK HEADS NORTH OF THE BORDER |
07-10-2008 |
Having just returned from a lengthy three-week European Tour, the Zoo Crew isn't wasting any time as they prepare to embark on the 2008 “ZOO-B-Q” Canada Tour from July 22nd–25th.
A few days before the tour officially kicks off, several ZY Officials will head to Quebec to compete in the 4th Annual Zoo York Am Getting Paid (AGP) contest which runs from July 18th–20th at Montreal’s South Parc Skatepark. AGP is widely recognized as one of today’s most prestigious international skateboarding contests for amateurs only. With a hefty prize purse of $10,000 USD up for grabs at this year’s event, all the rippers will be there including Zoo’s very own Brandon Westgate, Anthony Shetler, Matt Miller, Ron Deily, and Eli Reed.

Along for the ride will be Zered Bassett, Aaron Suski, Brandon Westgate, Anthony Shetler, Chaz Ortiz, and Eli Reed, as well as ZY staff videographer RB Umali who will document all the action for Zoo’s upcoming video, “State of Mind.” Over a four-day stretch the Zoo Crew will hit a handful of Canadian cities to host demos, autograph signings and, as the name suggests, backyard-style BBQ’s with free burgers, dogs and much more.

| East Coaster Jereme Rogers Places First! |
07-10-2008 |
After nabbing a respectable fourth place finish at the DVS CPH Pro, DVS Pro Jereme Rogers claimed first at the fifteenth annual Mystic Sk8 Cup in Prague the weekend of July 4’th, 2008.
As one of the most popular and prestigious events on the WCS European contest circuit, the Mystic Cup plays host to some of the best international skateboarders in the world and entertains more than 200 skaters from more than 25 countries.
The competition is always tough at the Mystic Cup, but Jereme Rogers’ consistency and trick selection won over the judges and earned him a spot at the top of the podium.
“It’s good to see Jereme back on top,” says DVS Skate Team Manager Gabe Clement. “Jereme skated solid in the CPH Pro with his 4th place win, but his win in Prague tops off the Euro trip! Congrats Jereme!”

| Glenn Brummage joins Tum Yeto Inc. |
07-03-2008 |
Tum Yeto, Inc. is proud to announce that Glenn Brumage has joined the company. That's right! Glenn Brumage is part of the Tum Yeto crew as Director of Sales & Departmental Solutionator. Glenn has been in the Action Sports industry for over 25 years and has been involved with everything from owning a five-man Sales Rep Agency to being a buyer at Hobie Sports. His most recent attributes to the industry include his previous VP Sales and Marketing position at Matt Hensley's Innes Clothing and his current involvement as an IASC board member. It is obvious that Glenn understands the Action Sports Industry inside and out and Tum Yeto is very excited to have him on board.
Tod Swank, founder of Tum Yeto, is confident that this new addition is going to further develop the company and it's domination within the industry. Swank says, "Glenn and I have known each other with us both being Board of Directors for IASC as well as through his time with Innes. I have been looking for someone who can duplicate what I do at Tum Yeto but more sales driven with that experience. I think Glenn fits that description. We are going to work hand in hand to help our internal and external reps provide the best customer service possible to our customers. As well as keeping interdepartmental communication on the flow at Tum Yeto. Looking forward to working with Glenn and inflicting some serious Tum Yeto global domination going forward".
Glenn is also extremely stoked to be a part of the Tum Yeto family. Glenn holds Tum Yeto in high regard, stating, "It's a talented group, the brands are respected and solid, the teams are full of top talent and sales have been growing... Dekline is especially exciting. I probably shouldn't be, but I was surprised at the technical design and quality. I'm really impressed with the Hybrid design of minus -150g. It's everything Cup Sole and Vulc aren't by themselves. With the addition of Jason Lee and Chris Pastras to the already solid team, it's obvious that Dekline is on the move".
Needless to say, Tum Yeto Inc. and Glenn Brumage are psyched to be working together and are looking forward to continuing the company's success in the up and coming seasons.

| The July Issue... |
06-30-2008 |
is at the press and will be shipping this week. And what an issue. First of all check out the cover that was shot by Dan Zaslavsky. Inside you will find interviews with Midwesterner, Jeremy Reeves and North Floridian, Joe Marrara. You will also find articles on the Damn Am, Red Bull Manny Mania, a look at the current skate scene in Gainesville, We also hopped in the RV with Marty and the Kona crew to cover the Florida Bowl Riders Cup. When the Northeast starts to warm up there is no better place to shred. Check out the ATL2NYC Road Trip that the crew at Reveal Skateboards pulled off. Speaking of NYC. Check out the article on the Deathbowl to Downtown video premiere that went down as well. As it sometimes takes a DIY approach to survive in skateboarding, check out our DIY candidate this issue, Huey Crowley who does his own illustrations on boards and submits work to STUCK Magazine and FLIP Skateboards. There are a whole bunch or other articles and interviews in this 100+ page banger of an issue, but this is starting to get long winded. Just be sure to check out the issue when it hits your local right coast shop or park. But better make it quick. Since FTK is FREE they tend to go pretty quick. Virtual mag should be up this week.

| ANDREW REYNOLDS VOTED ONTO THE NIXON TEAM |
06-25-2008 |
Nixon, the premium accessories company from Southern California, is proud to announce the addition of Andrew Reynolds to the Nixon Pro Team.
Reynolds joins an elite team including Bob Burnquist, Tony Hawk, Rick McCrank, Colin McKay, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, and Danny Way. The first addition to the team in nearly two years, Reynolds sailed through Nixon’s team policy requiring a team vote for any new additions.
“Andrew is one of the most influential skaters of all time,” affirms Nixon’s Sports Marketing Manager, Brandon Lillard. “Putting him up for a team vote was a no-brainer. Needless to say it was a unanimous vote from everyone and I look forward to seeing what Andrew brings to the table.”
Born in Lakeland, Florida, Reynolds has been skating since the age of nine. He turned pro for Birdhouse in 1995 after relocating to California and went on to capture Thrasher Magazine’s Skater of the Year award in 1998. He is widely considered to be one of the most significant skaters in the world and has had an immeasurable impact on street skating. His standout style coincides perfectly with Nixon’s unique original take on design and commitment to quality.

Hailing from Chicago, IL, over the past few years Chaz (spelled with one “z”) has quickly made a name for himself in the skateboarding world by racking up an impressive tally of top finishes at all the major contests. Standouts include placing 2nd at Phoenix Am 2008, 6th at Tampa Am 2008, 2nd at Volcom Damn Am 2007, and 6th at last year’s Dew Tour PlayStation Pro in Orlando.
Chaz is known for his super smooth, seemingly effortless style, and at only fourteen years of age he exudes a quiet confidence well beyond his years. With youth on his side, fire in his heart and a deep bag of man-sized tricks on lock, Chaz truly is the future of skateboarding.
“I’d heard about Chaz for a couple years before actually meeting him, and when we finally skated together I was blown away by his natural talent and how fast he progressed,” says ZY Senior Team Manager Seamus Deegan. “Even though we’re announcing it today, Chaz has actually been with Zoo York for years. In 2005, Harold [Hunter] spotted him at a contest and put him on the flow team, and now three years later we’re hyped to officially welcome him to the family.”
To keep the momentum going, Chaz spent most of May in NYC with the team shooting photos for ads and filming for his part in Zoo’s upcoming video, “State of Mind.”
As Zoo York’s newest recruit, Chaz joins veteran ZY Officials Zered Bassett, Donny Barley, Aaron Suski, Forrest Kirby, Kevin Taylor, Brandon Westgate (Am), Matt Miller (Am), Anthony Shetler (Am), Lamare Hemmings (Am), Ron Deily (Am), and Eli Reed (Am).
In addition to Zoo York, Chaz also skates for eS Footwear, Force Trucks, Diamond, FKD Bearings, Bones Wheels, and Warp Skatepark.

| Phoenix Am... |
04-10-2008 |
We need to give a big congrats to several past issue interviewees of FTK. Chicago's very own Chazz Ortiz finished second place solidifying the rumors that he's one to watch out for in skateboarding in the coming years. Last issue's interviewee, Dustin Blauvelt just missed the cash with a respectable 4th. Where local Florida all around ripper and contest winner Timmy Knuth broke into the top 10 with an 8th place finish, and past Tampa Am winner Cody Mcentire ended in 11th. How's that for solidarity? Congrats to all of these guys and Ryan Decenzo for going back to back with the Tampa Am and now the Phoenix Am. Isn't about time this guy goes pro?

| ZOO YORK WELCOMES ELI REED. |
03-21-2008 |
Born and raised in Boston, MA, Eli currently lives in NYC's East Village. A versatile street skater with a deep bag of tricks, Eli's unwavering dedication and years of grinding it out have earned him the respect of his peers and helped him make a name for himself in the global skateboarding community. His most recent accomplishments include placing fourth in Redbull's Manny Mania Contest, as well as securing highly-touted video parts in Zered Bassett's Vicious Cycle and Jereme Rogers' Neighborhood. Eli is skating better than ever right now, and to keep the momentum going he is already hard at work filming his part for Zoo York's upcoming full-length team video.
Eli has been one of my best friends and favorite skaters for ten years now, says long-time Zoo pro rider Zered Bassett. I'm hyped hes officially part of the crew, and I'm looking forward to traveling with him and watching him shred.
As the newest member of the Zoo Crew, Eli joins veteran ZY Officials Zered Bassett, Donny Barley, Aaron Suski, Forrest Kirby, Kevin Taylor, Brandon Westgate (Am), Matt Miller (Am), Anthony Shetler (Am), Lamare Hemmings (Am), and Ron Deily (Am).
To celebrate Eli joining Zoo York, a special podcast shot and produced by RB Umali is now available for download through iTunes. Eli's footage is also available on YouTube (Keyword search: Eli Reed ZY).

| The Harold Hunter Foundation would like to thank you for all of your support in 2007! |
03-21-2008 |
2007 was a busy year, beginning with our first Board Meeting in January when we elected the Board of Directors.
Later that month, with the help of Joseph Lattimore, Mad Daimoku, Dave's Quality Meat, aNYthing, Max Fish, UXA, and MDP/Sensei we had the first annual Harold Hunter Memorial Basketball Classic, held at Harold's alma mater Seward Park High School in January of 2007.
In February 2007 the HHF held a touching memorial at Forbidden City, to give Harold's friends a chance to get together and remember him on the anniversary of his passing. Films by R. B. Umali and Suzanne Clyne were shown and a photo exhibit was on display.
In April, the Nike Bridge Runners sponsored a 5 mile "Run for Harold" event leading approximately 40 runners through Harold's favorite stomping grounds. Beginning at the Brooklyn Banks, heading up through the Lower East Side, through Washington Square Park and across the Village, the run ended near the Campos Housing Project where Harold grew up. An after-party was held at Royale. Commemorative T-shirts were designed by Stash & Mike Hernandez, and at the end of the event Nike graciously matched the money raised by the event.
With the money raised at our various events, we sent George Milanes and Louis Vicor, two up and coming skaters from the Bronx, to Woodward Camp for a week in August.
Thanks to generous donations from DC, Shut, DQM, Rockstar Bearings, Nike and Triple 8 the boys were fully equipped with gear and boards and sent off in style by limousine courtesy of Madison Avenue Limousine to the Woodward Camp bus (see attached photo of the boys with HHF Board of Directors member Todd Jordan).
We are already off to another great year in 2008! In January, Blockworks sponsored the second annual Harold Hunter Memorial Basketball Classic. Building on the success of last year's event, this year's event included a dodgeball tournament and a wildly entertaining chicken wing eating contest, giving new meaning to the term "classic".
There a number of upcoming events in the works including another "Run for Harold" event with the Nike Bridgerunners, to be held on April 12th as well as another Harold Hunter Day scheduled for May 17, 2008, a skate clinic at KCDC and, of course, we will be sending a new group of kids off to Woodward Camp again this summer. More information on these events will follow.
Again, thank you for all of your support in 2007 and beyond! We look forward to seeing you at HHF events throughout the coming year.
If you have any interest in assisting with any of our events, or if you have any ideas that you think would be useful to the Harold Hunter Foundation please let us know.
Much love,
The Harold Hunter Foundation

| A time to remember... |
03-21-2008 |
On Saturday April 12th we will be celebrating the life of Luciano "Lucy" Ramallo, who we tragically lost on February 24th of this year. Let's remember all the fun we shared and lessons learned from Lucy in his short time on this Earth.
At 11am on Saturday April 12th join me at Phipps Skatepark. Formerly Sanctuary Skatepark located at 4715 S. Dixie Hwy. in West Palm Beach.
Helmets and waivers are required.
Regular admission to skate and free to watch.
There will be a novice, Intermediate, and Advanced division with a best trick and product toss to follow.
Live music and art from local musicans and artists as well. Food and drinks will be available.
Come out and enjoy this day remembering our friend.
For any questions feel free to call the park at 561-835-7170 or contact me directly at 561-452-6228
Thanks,

| An act of GAV... |
03-21-2008 |
One week after DVS hired on our boy Cullen Poythress to serve as the brand’s new Marketing Manager, Poythress’ Atlanta, Georgia-based apartment was blown to pieces by the violent tornadoes that swept through the city’s metro area last weekend. The 26-year-old former TransWorld Business Editor made his cross country move just in time and says he couldn’t be happier about his new role at DVS. “ “This was no act of god, this was an act of Gav,” says Poythress.
Poythress’ addition comes on the heels of several other new promotions within the DVS marketing camp. Congrats to both Cullen and DVS.

| It takes ONE to know ONE. |
03-12-2008 |
You know, coming up in skateboarding now-a-days is pretty tough. Every kid out there rips, every skateboard company out there has some sales pitch to make you want to buy their stuff, and every shop out there has a "passion" for skateboarding. Or at least that's what they claim. I know that there are a few out there that are in it for "the quick buck." Lucky for us, there's no such thing and you'll be gone soon enough. Anyway, here's a company that is out for all the right reasons. Be sure to peep this kid as he comes through Florida this month. Just a rad kid on a mission to skate all over the east coast.
